Teen Summer Challenge | Only a few weeks left!

Only a few weeks left!

That’s right, we’ve entered the second half of Teen Summer Challenge. So, is everyone having fun? We’ve been having a lot of fun reading your updates and seeing your badge claims. (Some of those new animals would be great for someone’s science fiction stories!)

There’s a downside to being in the second half, though – it means that you’re starting to run out of time to get your badge claims in. Soon enough, the Leaderboard will be frozen and those who are eligible for the iPad will be known.

Last call for badge claims will be sooner than you think. After all the last claims are awarded, you’ll find out whether you’re eligible for the drawing or not.

So, how does our Leaderboard look right now? Well, when I last posted, only one person had crested the 1,000 point mark. As of today? We have five. So congratulations to @jumper339 @bettafish @aparsw @olympian1999 and @aktress for making it to the four-digit club.

But that also means that the cut-off point for getting in the drawing has gone up, as well. Since my last post, the cut-off point was a mere 300 points. Now? If you want in on the iPad drawing, you’ll need at least 460 points to your username. (Which is awesome! A 160-point shift in a little over two weeks says that a lot of you are doing plenty to get points.) To be safe, you should always try to snag as many points as possible – who knows what the cut-off amount will be in another two weeks.

So check out the Challenge Guide to see if there’s anything more you can do and brag about.

Woohoo, four-digit club! :D Sad to see it’s ending so quickly, but excited for the drawing! *crosses fingers*

Well, with enough time and feedback, we might be able to make the case for doing it more than just in the summer. That case gets helped a lot when we have lots of really active participants, so thank you for doing your part.

Do you have a better chance of winning the more points you have (as long as you’re still in the top 30)? As in, would someone with 1,847 points have a better chance of winning than someone with 745?

Right now, to the best of my knowledge, it’s a straight draw – if you’re in the top 30, you have a 1/30 chance of being The Winner. In a future incarnation, having more points may weight your odds toward victory, but that’s not on the table for this year.

Thing is, the qualifying number keeps advancing higher every week, so if you’ve got 460 now, you’re probably going to be out of the running when it comes to drawing time.

Someone with 1,847 points, then, can feel fairly comfortable that they’re going to be in the running, whereas someone with 745 might find themselves sliding down to the bubble (and possibly right off it!) depending on how many badges are awarded between now and then.
